No way to tell how fast ship is travelling when there are no nearby objects, other than clutch-gliding

Description

Steps:
  1. Fly around in space.

Expected Results:
There is some immediately accessible feedback as to speed of travel, such as "dust particles" a la Privateer and other similar space games.

Actual Results:
Unless you are near an object or clutch-gliding, there is no way to tell how fast you are travelling, often resulting in overshooting the intended target.
