Description

I arrange my GTK3 client so the messages pane is at the bottom of the window, below the map.

If I drag to resize the size of the message pane, and then do anything to the window - maximize it, drag it to another display, etc -- the message pane disappears and will not come back. It seems the only way to get it back is to quit and restart the client.

Note that since the window starts full-screen, and I never want it full screen, so I always drag it so it is just another window. But if I resize the message pane as soon as it starts, then as soon as I drag it, the message pane disappears forever (until I quit and restart).

If I do not drag-resize the message pane, this does not happen. I am using 2.4.2 which is kind of old I guess, so maybe it's been fixed since then.

That is rather old; let's see if we can reproduce your problem with current code.

I arrange my GTK3 client so the messages pane is at the bottom of the window, below the map.

I think there are two configurations that have that effect: "Messages and Chat reports location" can be either "Split" or "Separate". Can you confirm which you have?

(I think that "Arrange widgets for small displays" must not be set.)

If I drag to resize the size of the message pane, and then do anything to the window - maximize it, drag it to another display, etc -- the message pane disappears and will not come back. It seems the only way to get it back is to quit and restart the client.

I can reproduce something a bit like that. Can you confirm whether it is the same symptom?

If I have "Separate" or "Split", and grab the horizontal resize line to make the Messages/Chat area taller or shorter, then after that, any reduction to the window height that causes the map view to take up the full window height causes the height of the Messages/Chat area to be zero, even once the window is made taller.

However, I do have a resize handle at the very bottom of the window which I can drag up to get the Messages/Chat area back.

(In "Split" mode, there is another, vertical resize handle between the "Chat" and "Messages" areas. Dragging that does not have an effect like this.)

I reproduced the behaviour I describe in 2.4.2 on Linux, and can still reproduce it in 2.6.0-beta3.
